Compared to corrugated cardboard, the cost of adhesive is relatively low. However, it has a significant impact on the quality of the corrugated cardboard and machine productivity.

Definol®

Definol® is a ready-to use high-performance adhesive for corrugated board production. It is designed to combine strong bonding performance with easy handling and measurable process benefits.

Definol® is based on refined wheat starch – not generic native starch. Its targeted refinement offers better processing control, lower gelling temperatures and lower steam pressure temperature compared to conventional starch systems. That means more consistent board quality and improved energy efficiency.

Definol® is supplied as a powder and only needs to be mixed with water at room temperature. All components, including functional additives, are already integrated – simplifying preparation, reducing handling errors and ensuring consistent quality without additional chemicals or complex cooking systems.

By lowering adhesive consumption, enabling reduced processing temperatures and supporting higher running speeds, Definol® helps decrease total operating costs – without major capital investment.

The formulation is tailored for modern corrugated production:

In combination with selected resins, Definol® can be configured for packaging that must withstand humidity, cooling environments or soil contact, making it ideal for agricultural and cold-chain applications. As all necessary additives are already included, mixing on site is not necessary, thus improving work safety and ease of handling.

Stable rheology, strong wet tack and a defined gel point enable higher corrugator speeds with the same energy input. With less water introduced into the board and faster drying times, plants can increase daily output while maintaining consistent quality.

Due to its composition, Definol® requires only a small amount of adhesive during application. It can also be adapted to work with wash water and treated process water, supporting more efficient use of resources.

Consistent adhesive quality and clearly defined process windows mean fewer manual interventions and less trial-and-error on the machine. Operators can rely on repeatable behavior, even under changing production conditions or with new paper combinations.

Definol® activates at lower temperatures than standard adhesives. Reduced steam demand combined with lower boiler load supports lower specific energy usage per square meter of board – an important contribution to reduction of Scope 1 emissions.

Improved bonding and less moisture input reduce warping, curl and delamination. The result: fewer rejects and complaints, more predictable quality for demanding print and display applications. In high-volume operations, this has a direct and positive impact on profitability.
